"It is very rare that I take pictures in which people do not appear. So it happens that when, as every year, we go on vacation to the same Adriatic town, I get involved happily by the usual local August festival, which draws from all over thousands of people who arrive there eager to dress up, laugh, dance, have fun. I, who all in all am a lonely temperament, wander through the colorful crowd and look around. Feasts, you know, are a way to get out of our daily lives, out of ourselves, out of our problems. Carnival, once upon a time, was the magical time when the poor could dress up as the rich and the rich enjoyed dressing up as the poor. Because after all, you know, sometimes even pretending does help to live."(continue...)
